The City of Santa Clarita offers a variety of services for residents and business owners. Below are the services provided by the City and links to the various program websites. We’ve also included helpful contact details for other services not provided by the City, but that residents use every day.

Arts & Events – The mission of the City’s Arts and Events Office is to promote, support, and develop arts programming and regional and community events for the benefit of residents. Some of the City’s best-known events and campaigns include the Cowboy Festival, Concerts in the Parks, Thursdays at Newhall (10 by 10, Note by Note, JAM Sessions and SENSES), the Santa Clarita Marathon and Public Art, to name a few.

Building & Safety – A division of the Public Works Department, the Building and Safety team works to ensure new construction follows established safety standards as outlined in the State Building Codes. The permitting process is mandatory for all new construction, including new buildings, alterations to existing buildings, and miscellaneous plumbing, mechanical and electrical installations.

Business Programs & Services – The City of Santa Clarita offers a variety of business services and programs designed to help companies of all sizes succeed as part of its Economic Development Division.

Community Centers – The Newhall Community Center and Canyon Country Community Center are part of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Both centers offer programs for youth and adults, and Canyon Country offers both after-school and summer programs.

Community Calendar – The City offers a monthly calendar providing information about events taking place in and around Santa Clarita. The public may submit events to the calendar free of charge.

Film OfficeThe City’s Film Office is responsible for issuing film permits for all location filming in City limits, assists with location inquiries, oversees filming on City-owned property, liaises with residents and business owners about filming, markets Santa Clarita and its locations within the entertainment industry, and works with legislators to keep filming in the state. Residents and business owners interested in working with location film crews are welcome to submit their home or business to the City’s film location library free of charge.

Graffiti Task Force – The City’s award-winning Graffiti program, part of Community Preservation, is designed to protect and preserve the quality of life in Santa Clarita, which includes quick removal of tags and graffiti. If you see graffiti, please report it.

Recreation and Community Services Office – The City’s Recreation and Community Services Division provides education and prevention programs and outreach, as well as neighborhood services.  The Education and Prevention section provides a variety of classes, programs, services and lifelong opportunities that educate, engage, develop and strengthen the community. Programs include emergency preparedness, civic engagement and participation and youth and family development. The purpose of the Outreach and Neighborhood Services section is to enhance the quality of life, facilitate partnerships and promote self-sufficiency through the development of neighborhood committees and targeted outreach services and programs, which include neighborhood committees and programs, mentoring, and employment training.

Landscape Maintenance Districts (LMD) – If you were in a Landscape Maintenance District (LMD) operated and administered by the County of Los Angeles, the operations of these services may transfer to the City of Santa Clarita. Your LMD maximum assessment amount will not change, but will be levied by the City beginning Fiscal Year 2013-2014. To contact the City’s Special Districts Office, please call (661) 290-2200. Maps of the City of Santa Clarita – The City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division provides downloadable electronic maps (in PDF format) for your review and use.  Printed copies of maps of the City are also available for purchase.

Parking Citations – The City of Santa Clarita issues and handles parking citations. For questions regarding a parking citation, call (800) 989-2058 or (661) 857-1357.  All other citations are handled through the Los Angeles Superior Court, which operates the Santa Clarita Courthouse.

Parks Info – The City of Santa Clarita offers more than 30 parks, including two dog-friendly parks, and several facilities including the Aquatic Center, Activities Center, Sports Complex, and Skate Park.

Public Works – The City’s Public Works Department is dedicated to managing capital projects that improve the community, maintaining quality roads, providing the residential and development community with development review services, and improving traffic flow and safety.  Areas of focus for Public Works include: Capital Improvement Projects, Development Services, Environmental Services, General Services, Street Maintenance, and Traffic and Transportation Planning.

Santa Clarita Public Library – The City of Santa Clarita Public Library includes three branches: Canyon Country, Old Town Newhall and Valencia.

Seasons Magazine – The City’s quarterly publication provides information about what’s happening in town and a schedule of available classes for residents of every age.  Classes range from sports and fitness to cooking and crafts and more – there’s truly something for everyone.

Street Maintenance – The City’s Street Maintenance Division is committed to the maintenance of the City’s streets, public right-of-ways, and easements in a safe and aesthetically pleasing manner.  To report a pothole or traffic signal that is out, please use the online service request system.

Tourism Office – The City’s Tourism Office offers a comprehensive look at things to do, seasonal events, accommodations, places to eat and the variety of entertainment options available in Santa Clarita.  Whether you are planning a night out with friends or entertaining family in town for the weekend, check out the Tourism website for what’s happening, special deals, and accommodations for every budget.

Trail and Paseo Maps/Open Space – The City provides more than 78 miles of trails and paseos and more than 8,000 acres of open space for enjoyment.  For more information about Open Space, visit

Trash & Recycling Services – Commercial waste services are provided by Burrtec Waste Industries; residential services are provided by Waste Management.

Urban Forestry – The Division is responsible for the maintenance of 50,000 trees, reforestation, weed abatement, the Neighborhood Leaf Out Program, neighborhood plantings, the annual Earth Arbor Day celebration, development review services and inspections, and removal of trees. Volunteer Information – The City is continuously seeking youth, teen and adult volunteers for a variety of programs.  The volunteer website is routinely updated with information about upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.

WorkSource Center – If you are looking for a job, want to refresh your resume, polish your interview skills or are an employer looking to hire qualified employee, the Santa Clarita WorkSource can help. The joint partnership between the City, College of the Canyons and Goodwill Industries offers free services and workshops for individuals and businesses.

The City of Santa Clarita is located within Los Angeles County. The following services are those we frequently receive requests about, but which are provided by Los Angeles County or other local/regional entities. 

Animal Control, Licensing, and Animal Shelter
– The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is responsible for providing services to Santa Clarita, including operating the animal shelter and licensing of animals.

Birth, Death, and Marriage Records – These are handled by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. Call (562) 462-2137 for information about Birth, Death and Marriage Records, or call (800) 201-8999 for Marriage License Information.

Business Licenses – The City does not issue nor require business licenses or business permits for businesses operating in Santa Clarita.  A business permit is only required if the business is subject to Los Angeles County health or safety regulations.  To inquire about a business license, please contact Los Angeles County at (661) 253-7342.  If you are planning a home-based business, please contact the City’s Planning Permit Center at (661) 255-4330.

Courthouse – The Los Angeles Superior Court operates a courthouse in Santa Clarita across from City Hall at 23747 West Valencia Boulevard.  The Courthouse website provides information about offices and services, including Civil, Criminal, Probation, Small Claims and Traffic issues.  Call (661) 253-7301 to reach the administration office.

Emergency Shelter – The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services offers a variety of assistance programs including housing programs, homeless assistance and senior and social programs.

Hospital – Since 1973, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, located at 23845 McBean Parkway, has been providing services to the Santa Clarita Valley.  The facility offers trauma and emergency services, and now features a neonatal intensive care unit for the youngest of patients.  (661) 253-8000

Senior Center – The Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging operates the Senior Center, located at 27180 Golden Valley Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91351. Services include classes, education, housing, meals and more. Call (661) 259-9444 for more information or visit the Center’s website.

Traffic Tickets – Traffic tickets are handled by the Los Angeles Superior Court.
