The City of Santa Clarita offers six pools to serve residents, including the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, which features three pools including a 50 meter competition pool, a 25 meter dive pool, and an activity pool complete with water play equipment and a 160 foot water slide.   While the City’s Aquatic programs are most active in the summer months, Santa Clarita offers year-round swim and recreation programs at various facilities.

Museums for all History Enthusiasts

Santa Clarita’s rich western heritage runs deep.  Not many people are aware of the depth and breadth of Santa Clarita’s history, which includes everything from the Old Pico No. 4 in Mentryville, to the second largest natural disaster in California history at St. Francis Dam.  The area is also well known for its Western film fame, and Santa Clarita is home to points of interest like the William S. Hart museum, Walk of Western Stars, and Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio.  Just a short drive out Highway 126, you can visit Rancho Camulos museums, which offers a beautiful and distinct look into California and Santa Clarita history and the “home of Ramona.”

The five-member Santa Clarita City Council holds their regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in the City Council Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m. (Council Meetings are broadcast live on SCV TV Channel 20 and on the City’s Website.)

Graffiti Task Force

The City of Santa Clarita and community partners believe graffiti has no place in the community.  The City relies heavily on tips from residents about graffiti and does its best to remove tags or graffiti within 24 hours of it being reported.

The City’s three prong approach to graffiti, which includes quick eradication, arrest of graffiti vandals, and community education and outreach, has proven successful in maintaining the area’s high quality of life.

Nearly two-thirds of Santa Clarita’s elementary schools having been named a California Distinguished School at least once, if not several times, for a total of nearly 90 individual awards of recognition since 1986.    Santa Clarita schools consistently rank among the top 10 percent in the state. 

Santa Clarita’s elementary schools are part of the following school districts: Newhall School District, Saugus School District, and Sulphur Springs School District.

Santa Clarita is home to programs like Academy of the Canyons, a unique high school experience for grades 9-12 that allows students the opportunity to complete high school graduation requirements while attending college.  In 2010 the program was recognized with a bronze medal from U.S. News and World Report as one of America’s top high schools.  The area also offers several charter school options, including the Albert Einstein Academy and SCVi Charter School (classroom-based) and Mission View Public School and Opportunities for Learning (independent learning).

Junior and senior high schools are operated by the William S. Hart School District.

The William S. Hart High School District has won the coveted Golden Bell Award for its diversity awareness and anti-bullying programs, for its summer Intensive Literacy Program, and for the exemplary physical education program at Sierra Vista Junior High.

A variety of private schools are also available in Santa Clarita, including Legacy Christian Academy, Monticello Preparatory School, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Pinecrest Schools, Santa Clarita Christian School, and Trinity Classical Academy.

Arts & Events – The mission of the City’s Arts and Events Office is to promote, support, and develop arts programming and regional and community events for the benefit of residents.  Some of the City’s best-known events and campaigns include the Cowboy Festival, Concerts in the Parks, ArtWalk, Senses, the Santa Clarita Marathon and Common Spaces:Art in Public Places, to name a few.

Building & Safety – A division of the Public Works Department, the Building and Safety team works to ensure new construction follows established safety standards as outlined in the State Building Codes.  The permitting process is mandatory for all new construction, including new buildings, alternations to existing buildings, and miscellaneous plumbing, mechanical and electrical installations.

Business Programs & Services – The City of Santa Clarita offers a variety of business services and programs designed to help companies of all sizes succeed as part of its Economic Development Division.

Film Office – The City’s Film Office is responsible for issuing film permits for all location filming in City limits, assists with location inquiries, oversees filming on City-owned property, liaises with residents and business owners about filming, markets Santa Clarita and its locations within the entertainment industry, and works with legislators to keep filming in the state.  Residents and business owners interested in working with location film crews are welcome to submit their home or business to the City’s film location library free of charge.

Graffiti Task Force – The City’s award-winning Graffiti program, part of Community Services, is designed to protect and preserve the quality of life in Santa Clarita, which includes quick removal of tags and graffiti.  If you see graffiti, please report it. 

Human Services Office – The City’s Human Services Office of the Community Services Division provides education and prevention programs and outreach and neighborhood services.  The Education and Prevention section provides a variety of classes, programs, services, and lifelong opportunities that educate, engage, develop, and strengthen the community.  Programs include emergency preparedness, civic engagement and participation, and youth and family development.  The purpose of the Outreach and Neighborhood Services section is to enhance the quality of life, facilitate partnerships, and promote self-sufficiency through the development of neighborhood committees and targeted outreach services and programs, which include Graffiti Task Force, Anti-Gang Taskforce, neighborhood committees and programs, mentoring, and employment training.

Landscape Maintenance Districts (LMD) – If you were in a Landscape Maintenance District (LMD) operated and administered by the County of Los Angeles, the operations of these services may transfer to the City of Santa Clarita.  Your LMD maximum assessment amount will not change, but will be levied by the City beginning Fiscal Year 2013-2014.  To contact the City’s Special Districts Office, please call (661) 286-4067.  If there is an emergency, such as running water or a downed tree branch, please call the City’s LMD hot line: (661) 286-4050.

Parking Citations – The City of Santa Clarita issues and handles parking citations. Parks Info – The City of Santa Clarita offers more than 20 parks, including two dog-friendly parks, and several facilities including the Aquatic Center, Activities Center, Sports Complex, and Skate Park.

Public Works – The City’s Public Works Department is dedicated to managing capital projects that improve the community, maintaining quality roads, providing the residential and development community with development review services, and improving traffic flow and safety.  Areas of focus for Public Works include: Capital Improvement Projects, Development Services, Environmental Services, General Services, Street Maintenance, and Traffic and Transportation Planning.

Santa Clarita Public Library – The City of Santa Clarita Public Library includes three branches: Canyon Country, Newhall and Valencia.  The new Old Town Newhall Library branch is scheduled to open on September 29, 2012 in Newhall at the intersection of Main Street and Lyons Avenue.

Seasons Magazine – The City’s quarterly publication provides information about what’s happening in town and a schedule of available classes for residents of every age.  Classes range from sports and fitness to cooking and crafts and more – there’s truly something for everyone.

Trash & Recycling Services – Commercial waste services are provided by Burrtec Waste Industries; residential services are provided by Waste Management.

Volunteer Information – The City is continuously seeking youth, teen and adult volunteers for a variety of programs.  The volunteer website is routinely updated with information about upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.

The City of Santa Clarita is located within Los Angeles County.  The following services are those we frequently receive requests about, but which are provided by Los Angeles County or other local/regional entities. 

Animal Control, Licensing, and Animal Shelter – The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is responsible for providing services to Santa Clarita, including operating the animal shelter and licensing of animals.

Business Licenses – The City does not issue nor require business licenses or business permits for businesses operating in Santa Clarita.  A business permit is only required if the business is subject to Los Angeles County health or safety regulations.

Emergency Shelter – The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services offers a variety of assistance programs including housing programs, homeless assistance and senior and social programs.

Hospital – Since 1973, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, located at 23845 McBean Parkway, has been providing services to the Santa Clarita Valley.  The facility offers trauma and emergency services, and now features a neonatal intensive care unit for the youngest of patients.  (661) 253-8000

The City’s highly modernized, award winning transportation service, Santa Clarita Transit, offers 13 local bus routes to more than 4.2 million passengers each year, providing fast, reliable service.

Santa Clarita Transit – Commuter Express

The Commuter Express service is convenient, cost-effective, comfortable and a great way to take the stress of weekday driving out of your schedule.  The Commuter Express currently offers service to Downtown Los Angeles, North Hollywood/Red Line/Orange Line, Century City/Westwood/UCLA, and Warner Center/Woodland Hills/Chatsworth/Canoga Park/Winnetka.

The City’s Commuter Express Service operates Monday through Friday year round except on New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Santa Clarita Transit – Dial-A-Ride Services

The City of Santa Clarita Transit is committed to providing Santa Clarita Valley residents and visitors with valued transportation services, which extend to customers with special needs due to age or disabilities.  Dial-A-Ride paratransit service provides curb-to-curb service for qualified elderly or special needs customers, as well as the general public.  Dial-A-Ride riders may schedule a trip for any purpose within the Santa Clarita Valley. Trips are not prioritized, which means riders can visit a friend or relative, go to a movie, visit the doctor, or go shopping.

The Santa Clarita Transit website includes details about eligibility, registration, scheduling of service, and hours of operation.  To make a reservation or register for Dial-A-Ride service, please call (661) 294-9327 between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Reservations can be made one to seven days in advance, including weekends and serviceable holidays.

Supplemental School Day Service

In an effort to serve the entire community, City of Santa Clarita Transit provides Supplemental School Day service trips during peak student travel times.  Seating availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Transfer stations are served by multiple Metrolink train and/or bus routes and help customers conveniently transfer at one location to a different route or service.

A variety of cable, internet and phone services are available in Santa Clarita.  You will want to reach out to the various providers below to determine which company offers service in your specific neighborhood, as some areas do vary in service availability.

AT&T – offering phone, Internet and cable services, as well as bundled service with AT&T Uverse.  The company offers an online link to begin service, or you can call (800) 288-2020.

DirecTV – offering English, Spanish and bundled packages.  Service can be scheduled online or by calling (800) 370-3587. 

Dish Network – offering a variety of services and bundle packages.  Service can be scheduled online of by calling (888) 926-5457.

Time Warner – offering phone, Internet and cable services, as well as bundled services.  The company offers an online link to begin service, or you can call (888) 488-3368. 

Southern California Edison

Southern California Edison provides electric services in Santa Clarita.  If you need to apply for new service, you can use the company’s online service or call the 24-hour customer service line at (800) 655-4555.

Street and Traffic Lights
The City contracts with Southern California Edison for maintenance and repairs of street lights on public streets and main arterials within the City and with the County of Los Angeles Public Works for maintenance and repairs to intersection street lights, which are commonly known as Highway Safety Lights, and bridge lighting (lights on or under bridges).  If you notice a street light in need of repair, Southern California Edison offers an online system to report the issue. 

Southern California Gas Company

The Southern California Gas Company provides an online tool to help you start natural gas services at your home or office.
