The City of Santa Clarita City Council, staff, and community partners place a high importance on public safety.  The City contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department to provide police and fire services for residents.

Based on FBI statistics, the City of Santa Clarita consistently ranks as one of the safest cities of its size (population over 150,000) in the nation.  Santa Clarita is one of the best places to live in California because of the proactive public safety programs, which include an emphasis on youth and business.  A few of the City’s unique programs include:

  • Crime Prevention Unit – In order to provide the most effective law enforcement services, the City is divided into zones.  Law enforcement teams then track crime, dissect trends, and direct resources in targeted areas to address issues.
  • Graffiti Task Force – City departments meet with community organizations to quickly eradicate graffiti, arrest vandals, and educate residents about the issue.
  • Juvenile Intervention Team (J-Team) – This team focuses solely on minors with drug offenses, using a three pronged approach of enforcement, diversion, and education to stop the cycle of drug use and abuse in Santa Clarita.
  • Sheriffs Business Alliance – The Alliance is designed to help protect the greater business community in the City of Santa Clarita by assisting the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station in identifying specific problems within the local business community and assisting employers and employees by providing valuable safety and crime prevention information.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department provides comprehensive fire and public safety services to the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley.  Battalion 6 and Battalion 22 provide services to the City of Santa Clarita.

In an emergency situation, timely information saves lives. The City of Santa Clarita uses the Nixle community information service to send important, valuable community information directly to subscribers by way of text message, email notifications and social media messages.

Graffiti Task Force

The City of Santa Clarita and community partners believe graffiti has no place in the community.  The City relies heavily on tips from residents about graffiti and does its best to remove tags or graffiti within 24 hours of it being reported.

The City’s three prong approach to graffiti, which includes quick eradication, arrest of graffiti vandals, and community education and outreach, has proven successful in maintaining the area’s high quality of life.
